Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday, October 23, said that the government will announce job schemes after Sankranti.

Reddy said that the schemes will be implemented for four months, till May, to provide daily employment to the poor and unemployed. Apart from the funds received from the Centre, the state government will allocate substantial resources for the scheme.

“We must provide work to every individual and ensure nobody goes hungry. The scheme should be meticulously designed and implemented. ‘Kalajathas’ (cultural troupes) should be organised to motivate farmers. A help desk should be set up at Gandhi Bhavan under the leadership of MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy,” Reddy said.

Reddy convened a meeting with Congress Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of Parliament (MPs) at the Praja Bhavan regarding measures to tackle El Niño-related challenges. He asked all public representatives to visit villages.

He said that visits by public representatives to these villages will be tracked through a special app installed on their mobile phones.

He stressed that the initiative should be used to restore access roads to agricultural fields, canals, ponds and other minor water bodies. The CM said that the government must make people aware of the ground reality so that they can prepare for the crisis.

The public representatives were asked to educate farmers through Rythu Vedikas about drought conditions and inform them that reservoirs currently have only 20 per cent of the usable water reserved for drinking purposes.

“No water would be released for irrigation during the Rabi season,” Reddy said. He reiterated an appeal to farmers asking them to cultivate crops that require minimal water.

He also warned that the drought situation in Telangana could prevail for 10 months, till July 2027.
