Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner A V Ranganath on Saturday, October 24, inaugurated the expansion work for the lake within Krishna Kanth Park in the Jubilee Hills constituency.
The Commissioner initiated the development project after performing special prayers. Previously, a 27-acre lake existed at this site. However, over time, the area was developed into the current-day park, with the lake being reduced to merely three acres.
As a result, areas such as Krishnanagar, Yousufguda, and the Maitrivanam vicinity in Ameerpet get flooded whenever there is 5 cm of rainfall.
Expanding the lake would help with flood control. To that end, measures have been taken to relocate the trees on the site. The Tree Protection Committee has approved their transplant near Sunnam Cheruvu—a site being developed by HYDRAA. These operations are set to commence immediately.
HYDRAA is also going to increase the depth of the lake to better contain the incoming floodwater. They will also develop the outlets to ensure that excess water can drain out once the pond reaches capacity.
There will be an embankment and a pathway around the lake. In addition to the existing open-air gym in the park, another one will be set up.
Arrangements are being made to provide seating areas around the lake. Gazebos and a children’s play area will also be developed, said HYDRAA.
Fencing will be installed to prevent unauthorised access to the pond water.
